    Our Mission

“To Educate, Empower, and Inspire female ethnic minority adolescents and young adults (aged 13-25 years old) in Hong Kong. Herlegacyhk.com serves to disseminate and consolidate information in one space to help Ethnic Minorities navigate NGO, governmental funds, grants, and other resources available to them in Hong Kong.

Research has shown ethnic minority women face many challenges with education and employment as compared to male counterparts and Chinese counterparts

Between 2008-2018 the proportions of female over 15 who received post secondary education barely increased
    22.9
1 in 5 ethnic minorities live below the poverty line
    Minorities 20%

In the status quo, ethnic minority females are highly disadvantaged in Hong Kong’s current education system because of language barriers. Ethnic minority females are disadvantaged from not speaking the native tongue (Cantonese) from a young age. Language plays a key role in the job market, thus creates barriers when ethnic minority females enter the workforce. This makes it harder for women who already face xenophobia and racism in the city to enter high level jobs and break through the glass ceiling.

Education is a key tool to fully integrate ethnic minority females in Hong Kong by bridging language and integration gaps. Educational resources allows females to improve their literacy, interpersonal, soft and hard skills. Education also acts as a effective method to empower future generation, and show that it is not impossible to reach your dreams. Currently, numerous educational resources and opportunities exist in Hong Kong but are difficult to access. This database serves as a simple and effective tool for ethnic minorities to access opportunities in Hong Kong that include education, mental health and creativity.

We Want, We Need more women to break through the glass ceiling.
